National Robotics Week

How to Get Involved

We hope you enjoyed National Robotics Week 2011! The third annual event will be held April 7-15, 2012. The Advisory Council members are busy planning for April and welcome your event submissions. For now, check out our activity ideas below and then share them with us online!

Organize an Event

  • Show off your robots! If you’re part of a company, research lab, robotics club, trade organization or other group that works with or has an interest in robots, consider hosting an open house and demonstrating your robots.
  • Spotlight robotic technology! If you’re part of a museum or science center, consider hosting a Robot Block Party, inviting guest speakers to talk about robotics, or running other robot-themed activities.
  • Get creative! Host a robotics competition, panel discussion or workshop. What about an exhibition of interactive robotic art? A webinar on medical robotics? A robot-building challenge? We welcome any type of event that’s designed to raise awareness about robotics.
  • Submit your event!

Things to Make and Do for K-12 Students, Teachers and Adult Leaders

  • Attend a robotics competition leading up to National Robotics Week!
  • Share your robot project for the National Robotics Week Robot Contest! This contest is designed to help kids of all ages share their robotics projects online and learn from others. Everyone can enter, either individually or with a club, team or scout troop! We’re giving away 45 great educational prizes, including robots and robot kits. Simply post your robot how-to on Instructables.com between February 10 and March 20, 2011, complete with pictures, text, and files necessary for someone else to complete the project according to your directions. Visit Instructables for more information.
  • Compete in RoboGames! RoboGames is the world’s largest open robot competition (according to the Guinness Book of World Records). Competitors from all over the world compete in over seventy different events: Combat robots, walking humanoids, soccer bots, art robots (kinetic and static sculptures), sumo bots, and even androids that can do acrobatics or kung-fu. The Junior League offers ten events exclusively for kids under 18! Visit RoboGames.net for more info.
  • Build an underwater robot from a free kit! SeaPerch is an educational tool - a fun, hands-on learning activity and curriculum that can be enjoyed by a wide range of students from sixth through 12th grades. SeaPerch will be giving away 150 underwater robotics for use during National Robotics Week along with free curricula and online training. For more information or to request kits for your classroom, scout group or club, visit http://www.seaperch.org/roboweek beginning February 1st until the kits are gone!
  • Make your own simple robot! Check out Simple Bots for bots that are easy to build even if you’ve never made a robot before.
  • Go see some robots at a National Robotics Week in your area! Robots are out and on display from Boston to San Francisco. Our complete event calendar is available at here.
  • Check out our Resources page for activities you can download, including a Robot Scavenger Hunt and robot-themed books to read.
