Event List

  • SCribble Bots, Discovery Museum

Join us as we learn about dancer and roboticist, Catie Cuan. Cuan combines her passion for dance, and robots, to investigate ways of helping people feel more comfortable around machines (or robots), especially in medical settings. We’ll celebrate Cuan’s accomplishments as we create dynamic drawings using simple DIY robotic contraptions made of motors, markers, tape, and a variety of recycled and repurposed materials. Set your machine in motion and watch it leave a trail of unexpected patterns. This program is made possible in part by a IF/THEN® Gender Equity Grant, a program created in partnership between the Association of Science and Technology Centers.

  • Discovering a Passion for Robotics by NEIA, New England Innovation Academy

New England Innovation Academy, a new school serving students in grades 6-12, is thrilled to celebrate National Robotics Week with an inspiring conversation between Alyssa Vallese, former youth robotics competitor and volunteer turned robotics engineer, with two aspiring roboticists and current VEX IQ competitors, Phoebe and Chloe Burke, in 7th and 6th grade respectively. At NEIA, we encourage students to discover their passion and find purpose by connecting with the community and seeking guidance from those around them. We intend to offer a competitive robotics experience at NEIA and are delighted to help students make connections to expand their understanding of engineering and science careers. At this virtual event, Phoebe and Chloe will have an opportunity to interview Alyssa to learn more about her experience as a robotics competitor turned engineer and gain insights to inform their own career aspirations.

  • Demo & Discuss with New England Educators: Creating Custom Parts for Robotics Projects, AET Labs

In this interactive virtual session, New England educators will explore how to bolster team-oriented projects with digital fabrication tools, like waterjet cutters and 3D printers, to create high-strength custom parts for robotics projects. The event will start with a demonstration and then open up to a collaborative discussion among educators. How are we teaching students to incorporate design and manufacturing as they build their Vex or First Robotics systems? What are some starter projects that will get students comfortable with using the manufacturing tools?
