Autonomous reconnaissance missions are called for in extreme environments, as well as in potentially hazardous (e.g., the theatre, disaster-stricken areas, etc.) or inaccessible operational areas (e.g., planetary surfaces, space). Such future missions will require increasing degrees of operational autonomy, especially when following up on transient events.

Titanium Titan Robotics and Washington Robotics Society would like to invite LEGO robotics enthusiasts from across SWPA to kick-off National Robotics Week at the Washington Crown Center on April 6, 2019 from 10am-2pm. Teams of students (grades 4th-9th) will be using LEGO EV3 or NXT task-bots capable of color sensing to clear their paths of "asteroids".

The Sea Air & Land Challenge, nicknamed the SeAL Challenge, is an Office of Naval Research Sponsored STEM initiative, in which teams of high school students learn about the engineering process by creating a robotic system that will be used to compete in challenges which mimic missions encountered by the military and first responders. The students work spring semester, in either classes or after school groups, to design and develop the robotic systems that can run under water, in the air. On Challenge Day, the teams of students come together to compete against each other.

Sponsored annually by the Fayette County (Pennsylvania) 4-H Robotics Club. Teams of 2-4 members in grades 4-9 design, build, and program LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 robots to run series of five races on three different race tracks: straight track 10’ drag and 25’ drag; single oval and double oval track; the bowtie track. FIRST LEGO League team #17451 and coaches from Fayette 4H design, build, and program the tracks and start/end gate sensors/timers. This is an open invitation to all teams, new and experienced. Plus it gives the host team members a challenge to work on as new tracks are added each year.

Startable Pittsburgh is a free program that teaches high school students entrepreneurial and maker skills. Students work in teams to design, prototype, build, and market products of their own creation.
