The GKCSEF is organized by division (grade level) and category. Divisions are intermediate (grades 4-6), junior (grades 7-8) and Senior (grades 9-12). There are 15 categories covering: Animal Science; Behavioral & Social Sciences; Chemistry; Chemical Energy; Computational Science, Bioinformatics and Mathematics; Computer Systems, Electronics, Robotics; Earth and Environmental Sciences; Energy and Environmental Engineering; Engineering Mechanics; Materials Sciences; Microbiology; Molecular Bio/Chem & Health Sciences; Physics & Astronomy; Plant Science; and Inventions (grades 4-8). Academic awards are presented to the top projects of each division and category, in addition special awards are presented by local STEM organization. Students are competing to win ribbons, awards and cash prizes totaling nearly $7,000.

The 2019 Mineral Area VEX Challenge is an event that takes place during the annual Robot and Technology Expo on the campus of Mineral Area College. It is an opportunity for youth to demonstrate their learning, celebrate their accomplishments and interact with others who share their interest in robotics and programming.

The Missouri 4-H Robotic & STEM Challenge will allow 4-H members in the Robotics & STEM projects an opportunity to showcase the skills they have gained in teamwork, engineering, programming, and problem solving. Robotics challenges, computer science projects and STEM exhibits will be featured. Hands on activities for spectators.

Robotics Design Challenge is an event for K-8 youth, where they build LEGO-robots with a variety of sensors, and program them to accomplish a given task. The Challenge has been hosted annually since 2006 by the Center staff, in collaboration with K-12 teachers, 4-H and other community organizations. The goal is to introduce STEM skills at a an early age, and to motivate them to pursue science and engineering careers.
